"It was the saddest time in our life and worsened our existence in US."
Our youngest child Bennie, eight year old became dull, inactive. Looks sick, so took to a doctor of Wapato, his diagnosed to have bad stomach, and his medicine doesn’t not cure him. So took to another doctor, that time boy complained ache on stomach or breast, 2nd doctors treatment don’t cure him neither and seem to get worse. I knew his illness more serious than Wapato doctors diagnosed, and took him to Dr. Bice of Yakima. He called me to other room and told me the case are really behind, the boy suffering from heart ache, not stomach. His tonsillitis get so bad his heart swell up and hurt him, and he stand “treatment for about 10 days chances are good for get well, if not, there are no much hope, but he will do all he can,” and ordered to hospital immediately.
His mother stay with him nearly day and night. He seemed to getting better and we all in hopeful mind. Then unluckily, Dr. Bice had call from East for his father in seriously sick required his present there, so he went to last, leave our boy’s case with his colleague. As he predict, our boy get worse in about 10th day. When I run into his room he just passed away. This was most severe blow to me, his mother pulling hair of my lowered head and weeped, so piteously. It was the saddest time in our life and worsened our existence in US. We buried him with our friends warm sympathy and help....
Our misfortune came again as report from Japan my dear mother’s death. She was weak long time, still not very old in age so it was unexpected sad news to me. I held the private memorial service with brothers and intimate friend, later I got a letter from my sister who attended mother’s deathbed. Mother wanted see me, her eldest son, so bad. “If there is no Pacific Ocean she will walk even one year to see my son.” I thought of my unfilial past, my sorrow was very, very deep.
